Strategy 5. We will develop infrastructure to support robust technology integration across the organization and all curricula.

Specific Results:

  • Implement and support 21st Century technologies to enrich the curriculum, support administrative functions and improve communication
    • Examples of what many teachers/staff currently do:
    • What we can do:
      • offer E-editions of textbooks online and get software installed in labs and library
      • offer online workbooks through sites such as Quia
      • incorporate the use of smartphones for assignments/activities as well as organization
      • use sites like Moodle, TRACS, EdModo, and Blackboard for assignments, handouts, class discussions, and dropboxes for turning in assignments digitally.
      • take advantage of distance learning opportunities within district as well as across the nation and world.
      • skype (videoconferencing)
      • 3-D interactive worlds
      • use technology such as podcasts, vodcasts, etc. to allow students to download lectures and PowerPoints
      • labs with enough computers to fit entire classes
      • more laptops (COWS) or netbooks
  • Implement and support 21st Century administrative function technologies
      • update gradebook/attendance/library catalog with student photos
      • wikis/Google Tools for departments to collaborate and organize meetings, etc.
  • Implement and support 21st Century technologies to improve communication
    • What we can do:
      • promote the use of blogs, wikis, class websites, twitter, RSS feeds, etc. to communicate and collaborate with students, parents, and coworkers

  • Provide the technology infrastructure to support individual student portfolios, personalized education plans, and student career/college readiness initiatives
    • provide opportunities for students to learn new technologies
      • create digital portfolios
      • use web 2.0 resources for assignments and projects
      • emphasize the use of technology to help students get organized
      • teach them technologies that will help them in college (ex: library databases, Blackboard/Moodle/TRACS)
  • Ensure access to all technology resources by increasing operational network capacity, LAN/WAN bandwidth, Internet capacity and wireless access throughout the district
      • expand bandwidth
      • cloud computing, Google Apps
      • increase cell coverage so students and teachers can use smartphones for class
      • labs with enough computers to fit entire classes
      • more laptops (COWS) or netbooks
  • Ensure/Allocate budgetary resources and implement operational procedures to increase access to technology for staff, students and parents.
    • What we can do:
      • provide teachers with a higher level of administrative rights than the students
      • apply for grants
      • offer more training for teachers
      • opportunities for teachers to go to TCEA conference in the Spring
        • those who go should share what they learned with other teachers
      • ensure that money spent on technology goes to teachers/staff who will use it
  • Incorporate "Green" IT initiatives when implementing and upgrading all technology.
    • online textbooks and workbooks
    • sites like Moodle and TRACS for assignments, handouts, and virtual dropboxes
    • dispose of old equipment appropriately (recycle when possible)
